Good-Bye and Hello

"Good-Bye" to summer, freedom, lazy days, and swimming.

"Hello" to school, a schedule, homework, and old friends.

Is it a bit hard to tell which one is the 3rd grader and which one is the 5th grader?

Last Bit of Fun

With the last day of summer break being a Tuesday, I decided to take advantage of Thanksgiving Point's "Two Dollar Tuesdays" and take the kids to the dinosaur museum (along with many, many other people). The line was pretty long, but it didn't take long to get in and I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to manuever through the museum. It was a fun, last outing, well worth the $10 to get us all in.

Promises, Promises...

Since we never went to any parades this summer (Orem Summerfest was too rainy, and we were just plain lame on the 4th of July), I promised myself and the kids that we'd go to a parade before summer ended. Lindon Days was last weekend and I knew that if we didn't make it to THIS parade, it was never gonna' happen. So, I dragged the family to the parade. We showed up about 30 minutes early, which ended up being WAY too early. There was NO traffic (unless you count the horses and Scouts we had to maneuver around). There were hardly any people out along the parade route except for the residents that lived there. We had no trouble finding a nice bit of shade.
It didn't take long for the kids to realize that this parade wasn't going to be so "boring" afterall. They practically had a hard time keeping up with all of the candy being thrown.
Even a small-town parade wouldn't be a parade without a marching band,
or a float or two - wave to the pretty ladies!
The parade only lasted about 40 minutes - just long enough for me - and we ended up with a bag full of candy along with some pencils, Otter Pops, juice, a water bottle, and a ton of flyers and coupons. This was one of the easiest parades I've been to. I think the Lindon parade will become a tradition from now on.

Grandma Visnaw's Visit

Since we were not able to see Grandma Visnaw while we were in California last month, she came to us. She got here on her birthday, so we had to welcome her with her favorites - pastries! Kneaders was the first place we thought of for pastries, and they did not disappoint. We ordered just about one of everything and it was fabulous! Here's a closer look at all the delicious treats. Happy Birthday Grandma!
She was able to stay for about 5 days which were spent talking, playing games, talking, eating out, talking, going to movies, and oh, did I mention talking? I love talking with my mother-in-law, Brenda, and realize that two things we like to talk about the most are books and cooking. The Visnaws just LOVE food, especially eating out, so we did our fair share of that while she was here - Rodizio, Tai Drift, Costa Vida, Texas Roadhouse, Terra Mia, Kneaders dessert tray (twice), and a lot of Tomasso's. It was a treat for all of us since eating out doesn't happen all that much for me or for Brenda. We had a great time having her here and hope we didn't spoil her too much.
