Lagoon 2012

The annual Nu Skin Summer Party was at Lagoon again this year.  Nu Skin reserves the WHOLE park so there is no one else there but employees, their family and friends.  The GOOD thing about Lagoon day is that the lines are short and it's FREE - can't beat that.  But, what is BAD about Lagoon day is that I'm getting too old to thoroughly enjoy it.  I used to hang out in Kiddie Land with the little kids (stressing out over germs and possible puking kids) while Leon did all the nauseating rides.  But we are all tall enough now to do all the big rides together.  Last year I learned for the first time that I can get motion sick - has never happened to me before.  So, this year I was a bit tentative in the rides I went on.  I knew there was ONE ride that did me in last year, but I couldn't remember which one it was.  (I should have reviewed my blog from 2011 and learned from history.)  This year I kept waiting for the ill feeling to hit - evaluating how I felt after each ride.  I made it through the old wooden coaster, "The Wicked", "The Bat" and "The Spider", but as soon as we hit the first loop on "The Colossus", I knew exactly which ride it was that did me in last year (yup, it's right there in last year's Lagoon post, too).  I was done.  Leon admitted that he wasn't feeling all that great after "The Colossus", but he powered through not wanting to sit out.

So, we went on the train to let things settle.  I was pretty miserable through the whole train ride, but I think riding backwards didn't help much, either.

We let the kids ride any ride they wanted, as many times as they wanted.  By the end of the night, even Leon was sitting on the bench with me.  We are getting too old, I guess, and can't handle what we used to.

The Bumper Cars, however, were fun for everyone.

I was still a bit nervous about getting on a moving object, but I'd have to say the Bumper Cars were my favorite "ride".
The boys rode the "Rocket" over and over and over again - running from the exit right back into line again. I just don't get it.  I would have been hurling, for sure.  Ah - to be young again (although, I think I would have stayed away from that ride if it had existed when I was young, too).
Despite the big rides getting the best of us old people (Mom and Dad), we had a great time, as usual.  Thanks, Nu Skin, for providing us with a fun evening!   (Note to self:  Review your blog from 2012 and 2011 and next year do NOT go on "The Colossus"!)

Fisher-Price Revival

From the other room I heard some interesting noises.  We had some old Fisher-Price toys out from the other night when some little kids were over.  Landon was playing all by himself in the living room and I couldn't resist spying on him and his imagination.  I found it quite entertaining, especially since he's 7.  I thought he'd grown out of this phase, but I guess not.  If the volume is up enough, you can hear his deep throat-ed voice which just cracks me up.

A Day Full of Firsts

Here's the obligatory "First Day of School" picture.  However, this particular year was Dallin's first year of High School, Jayden's first year of Junior High, and Landon's first year of Spanish Dual Language.  Cameron just gets 5th Grade for the first time, I guess.

I'm not so sure how I feel about Dallin starting High School.  I've already been to High School.  Do I need to do it again?  Jayden has been pretty excited for Junior High and feels like such a big kid with a locker and stories to tell about mean teachers, stuck lockers, gross lunch food, and big 9th Graders.  Sounds like one of those pre-teen Disney shows (which Jayden loves, by the way - don't tell).
